The heart of Pinehurst is the Village in Old Town bustling with golfers, resort guests and residents enjoying the shops and restaurants in the atmosphere created by the town’s New England heritage. Surrounding this lively hub are the charming cottages of Pinehurst, a number of them dating to the first built by Tufts in the 1890’s. From the rocking chairs on the rambling porch of the Carolina Hotel, it is a short walk down the avenue to the historic Pinehurst Country Club. The Village is surrounded by newer golf developments associated with each of the Pinehurst Golf Courses numbered 1-8, and Lake Pinehurst for those who prefer lakeside living. Pinehurst Country Club memberships are available to property owners, many by transfer.
Local landmarks include the Village Chapel, Givens Library housing the Tufts Archives, the Harness Track and Fair Barn, and are associated with ongoing good times whether it is a wedding, dance, horse show or carriage parade. Rassie Wicker Park in Old Town provides miles of walking or jogging trails and connects to a large county greenway system.
